Recycle
Soles4Souls
Middle School Serve (packing shoes for shipment)

Soles4Souls need the ‘gently worn’ shoes taking up space in your closet. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unworn shoes lying in their closets. Soles4Souls can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someone’s life.
Round up shoes from your closets and drop them off at the church during Community Impact on September 13. Please include $1.00 per pair to help offset the shipping cost of getting the shoes to the Soles4Souls warehouse. We will send the shoes to Soles4Souls where the shoes will be categorized based on gender, size, and type. Your shoe donations will allow them to keep a "ready inventory" that can respond quickly to any disaster relief. This small act helps provide a basic need; quality shoes help protect feet from cuts, scrapes and contaminants that can lead to potentially serious health care issues. Soles4Souls has grown rapidly, resulting in over three million pairs of shoes being given away to date. They distribute in the U.S. and 50 other countries.

Helping Children & Families
The Buddy Program
Community Christian Church, Tamarac

Make it possible for parents with special needs children to attend worship services by becoming a Buddy. The Buddy Program will provide special need kids and teens with individual attention and an opportunity to more fully participate in Community’s programs. We will be offering a training session for ‘Buddies’ during the Community Impact event. This training is required to participate in this program. Training will teach adults and high school students how to work with special need kids and teens as well as how best to communicate with their parents. Once the training is completed, a participant will be matched with a child or teen needing assistance.

www.4kidsofsfl.org
Minimum Age: 16

For years, this may be their "home", "Mom" and "Dad", yet each child desires to be adopted into a permanent home. Volunteer opportunities include fixing up the back yard of a Group Home in Ft. Lauderdale. They need to have pavers put down, yard maintenance and possibly mulching.

Family Recovering from Hurricane Wilma
Minimum Age: 18

The McKinney family of four lost their roof and windows during Hurricane Wilma. They were uninsured at the time of loss and without extra funds. Forced to leave their home immediately, they have been living in an apartment ever since paying rent and mortgage. A roof was put on earlier this year. The father suffers from Marfan’s Disease and has been through several life and death surgeries since the hurricane with no disability benefits. Both parents work (when the father can), but are barely making it. They have applied for assistance everywhere, but make just over the amount afforded for grants.
In February we had a group go out and help them remove everything in the home and load a dumpster. The home might still have mold, so volunteers might be required to wear mold masks, work gloves, eye protection and a few to wear hard hats. A throw away jumpsuit or old clothing that can be removed, bagged, and later disposed of or washed is required as well. No children can be on this job site. Homeowners will sign a release for volunteer, with volunteers signing one as well. The McKinney family will be on the job site with at least one parent working on the team. They need help with interior construction and possibly painting the outside of their home. Future details to be announced.
