This summer we adopted two kindergarten classes from Lake Trafford Elementary School in Immokalee, an impoverished area in eastern Collier County. Of the 850 students who attend Lake Trafford, the vast majority are from families living below the poverty level and nearly 40% are from the families of migrant farm workers.
As part of our School Supply Drive, we collected enough supplies to outfit the entire classroom of 40 children with 2 new school uniforms each (2 polos & 2 shorts), backpacks filled with their needed supplies, a package of underwear, a package of socks, and a new pair of sneakers. The teachers of these two classes will receive almost everything on their wish list.
So many supplies were donated that we have enough backpacks and school supplies to share with another 40 children at Lake Trafford. Here is a complete list of the items that our church members so generously donated to send to Immokalee:
